An Urgent Prayer Request
Normally at this very hour of the day I would already be at church, waiting for our partners to show up, having a word of prayer with them and sharing with them the lesson plan for the night and its objectives.
However, today is different – quite different. We have been experiencing a sharp increase in the last few days with cartels clashing against each other to claim the “rights” of the Reynosa/McAllen border. Moreover, Mexican President Felipe Calderón is not backing down against these drug thugs and is fighting fire power with fire power. You could say that the entire border (on the Mexican side) has been militarized. There are literally thousands of soldiers in Reynosa in an all-out war against some very powerful drug cartels. Battles are breaking out in different parts of the city, leaving many wounded and dead from the cartels, the Mexican army, and civilians caught in the cross-fire.
Our small mission in Reynosa has not escaped the fateful war. Last night, for example, a shooting took place not far from where we normally meet and there were a few dead. It has been the concern of many that has made us think about our going across today.
We urgently request your prayers for our safety and the safety of our dear Christians in Reynosa, Mexico.
